For the attention of: The Culture, Communications, Welsh Language, Sport and International Relations Committee

Dear Chair,

Thank you for the opportunity to read through the transcript of the committee meeting held on 21 June, and for the opportunity to give evidence during the meeting itself. I would like to add a further explanation to the comments that I made at 12:36:10 during the meeting when discussing our provision as Mentrau and as a key partner to local authorities. I was referring to our provision of cultural opportunities to adults, children and young people during the school holidays. It was not my intention to undermine the work of any other organisation by referring to our provision, but I would like to note that Urdd Gobaith Cymru also provides different opportunities to those provided by the Mentrau during school holidays and on an ongoing basis within the community. It is possible that my comments may have been misleading, although this was not my intention. I understand that the Urdd has provided a comprehensive list of the opportunities that it provides in the Caerphilly area for the committee’s attention. Again, this provision is different to our provision as Menter Iaith Sir Caerffili.

I would be grateful if this clarification could be added to the transcript, if possible.

Thank you once again for the opportunity to give evidence to the committee,

Yours sincerely,

Lowri Jones

Chief Officer, Menter Iaith Sir Caerffili
